Anne and Gills Friendship

We met through volunteering and became good friends.

GillAnne
I saw a Billericay Town Crier advert looking for Basildon Mind volunteers in BillericayI knew about Basildon Mind through my employment. I decided to volunteer in response to an advert.
Having brought up a daughter with anxiety and depression I appreciate the help needed by people who engage with Basildon Mind.Having worked in Mental Health and Substance Abuse for many years, I felt I could offer advice and assistance to those seeking help
Volunteering involves generally chatting with people and signposting if required. I really enjoy my time volunteering and would thoroughly recommend it.Volunteering involves listening carefully to clients talking about their problems and anxieties, offering advice, assistance, and /or signposting to relevant agencies.
Humankind Café in Billericay is a very happy friendly space and a great place to meet and chat. I love going and volunteering there. My volunteering helps me to make social contacts. I find it rewarding:  you can make a difference, enhancing their lives when possible.
The benefits of my volunteering is making new friends and helping others whilst helping myself. The benefits of my volunteering are meeting new people and other volunteers and forming friendships.
Regarding my friendship with volunteer Anne, we discovered a shared sense of humour and have shared our ups and downs over time. We support each other.I met fellow volunteer Gill soon after starting volunteering. Our friendship has grown. We have common interests and a similar sense of humour.
When not volunteering, we often phone each other and meet for coffee. Anne is in the process of moving and I am helping out whenever I can.Outside of your volunteering we keep in touch, share concerns about life and help each other. Gill is helping me move house move which is stressful.
My comment to anyone thinking about volunteering is, if you enjoy chatting and helping people, give it a try.I’d encourage anyone thinking about volunteering to go ahead. You’ll be surprised how rewarding /beneficial it is.
I really enjoy my time volunteering and would recommend it.If you live alone, being a volunteer helps to form friendships, help others and become more active in your community.
